Hollan Steen Asheville Recovery Center

Hollan Steen – Admissions Director,

Hollan Steen is the Admissions Director at Asheville Recovery Center, and he’s often the first person people speak with when they reach out for help. His role is about making sure clients and their families feel supported from the start. Hollan knows how intimidating it can be to ask for help, and he brings understanding and compassion to every conversation. Having been through recovery himself, he’s able to connect with clients in a way that feels genuine and relatable.
At ARC, many of the staff are also in recovery, which Hollan believes is what makes the program so special. “You can’t fake this kind of connection,” he says. “We’ve been there, and that creates a trust you can’t buy.”
How Hollan Found Asheville
Hollan grew up in Apex, North Carolina, where community was a big part of life. When he came to Asheville for treatment, he fell in love with the area. The mountains and small-town feel reminded him of home. Now, he’s proud to help others find their fresh start here, just like he did.
Music as His Anchor
For Hollan, music has always been deeply personal. He started with classical piano as a kid and later picked up the drums. Music is his escape, something that quiets his mind. “When I play, the world goes still,” he says.
Certain songs hold memories of both pain and growth. For Hollan, music mirrors his journey in recovery—difficult but beautiful.
Why Recovery is Personal
Hollan didn’t initially plan on working in addiction recovery, but it became an opportunity to rebuild his life and help others do the same. One of the biggest lessons he’s learned is to keep going, even when it’s tough. “Every time I pushed through instead of giving up, something amazing happened,” he shares.
At ARC, Hollan sees lives change daily. Many clients come to the program feeling like they’ve run out of options. “We’re here to show them they’re not alone and that there’s always hope,” he says.
Why Hollan Believes in ARC
Hollan loves the sense of community at ARC. With so many staff members in recovery, the program creates an atmosphere of trust and connection that clients notice right away.
For Hollan, his role at ARC isn’t just a job—it’s a way to give back and help others find the same hope and healing he’s found. “Recovery is worth it,” he says. “You don’t have to do it alone.
